Language Other Than English
Learning languages opens minds to difference and diversity in culture. Students in Stage 4 (Year 7 & 8) learn a language other than English (LOTE) to encourage more effective engagement with the global community and fosters intellectual and emotional development/awareness. The study of languages and cultures is valued as a unique and integral part of the curriculum.
All Year 7 and 8 students undertake a year of LOTE at Wellington High School. Students will be focussing on the Japanese language and culture. Through learning Japanese, students develop communicative skills in the language, an understanding of how languages work as a system and intercultural understanding capability.
