Wellington High School Third in the State

Wellington High School has completed a somewhat successful campaign in the Marie Cornish Shield.  Wellington wound up coming third in the state behind some very impressive secondary schools and Sports High Schools.

Wellington had an impressive run entering the final four in the state.  Prior to attending the final four in Bathurst wellington come up against two other Sydney based schools and were victorious.

On 16th February 2013 Wellington High School hosted Elizabeth Macarthur High school. Wellington lost the toss and was sent into bat.  After 40 overs Wellington High School was 4 for 178, with Sara Darney top scoring with 93 not out.  Elizabeth Macarthur then was bowled out for 25 with seven bowlers all taking wickets.

Wellington High School moved into the final 16th of the state and travelled down to play Endeavour Sports High at Sutherland.  Due to injuries Wellington High School elected to bowl.  We only used three bowlers and bowled Endeavour Sports High for 24 with Sara Darney taking a hat trick and ending up with final figures of 8 for 1 off 5 overs, Jessica Antes took 2 for 3 and Brittany Naden bowling well to shore up one end.

State Final series held in Bathurst

Wellington High School drew Narara Valley High School from the Central Coast.  Wellington High School started a little slow in the field and allowed their batsman to take early control,  However, a fight back saw Wellington High School bowl Narara out after 30 overs for a score of 143.  Best bowling came from Tahnee Kelly 3 for 2 off 6 overs, Sara Darney 4 for 25 and Brittany Naden 1 for 35.

Wellington High School's batting was scratchy and many batsman gouged starts.  However, no one really went on with the job.  Best batsman was Brittany Naden 35.  As the game came to a close Wellington High School's number 9, 10, and 11 dug in for one final last stand. Shyanne Stanley, Brooke Stokes and Dearne Philpott brought us within 14 runs of victory.  To me this stance was the highlight to the day's cricket.

Wellington High School now had to play off for the 3rd and 4th position against Hunter Sports High School.  Wellington batted first and achieved all out for 118.  Sara Darney 53 and a big hitting display by Rhianna Sutherland 26 including 1 six and 3 fours were the stand out batters.  In turn Wellington High School turned its fielding around and performed very well in the field.  Hunter Sports High School was bowled out 91, with Brittany Naden standing out with the ball taking 4 for 16 and Tahnee Kelly taking control at the other end with 3 for 25.

Overall, Wellington High School girls should be very proud of their achievements.  Third in the state is a tremendous achievement and deserves well-rounded congratulations.

Both Mr Price and I, as coaches, are proud of these girls every time we go out for a match. Their respect to all when outside the school and their commitment to the sport of cricket is commendable.  I would also like to thank the parents and care givers of these girls as the travel is expensive and the running around with students is time consuming.  However, the joy experienced by all makes it worthwhile.

Well done girls and I look forward to our games in the future.
