The Bard Comes to Life at Wellington High School!

Bell Shakespeare

On Tuesday, 28th May, Wellington High School staff and students were treated to a Shakespearean experience of a lifetime. Bell Shakespeare provided a very engaging production entitled, WORDS, WORDS, WORDS!

Shakespeare’s words definitely came to life through a troupe of only three, very talented players. The audience, comprised of Year 9 and 10 students were captivated by the performance. Whilst the tragedies, Romeo and Juliet and Macbeth were the key focus points of the production, many other Shakespearean plays were alluded to. The students were also informed of Shakespeare’s language and dramatic techniques very cleverly throughout the production. Iambic pentameter was likened to a heart beat that made the concept very relatable for our students. Our students were a great audience and found the production most entertaining and informative.

The question and answer session at the conclusion was also very educational for our upcoming students of Shakespeare’s works. Students were able to gain an insight into the players’ preparation for such a performance.

Wellington High School would also like to acknowledge Foxtel who kindly sponsored our school in light of the drought, which our local community has endured recently. When regions are affected by drought, especially one as long lasting as this, everyone in the community is affected. Wellington High School definitely appreciates the fact that companies such as Foxtel and Bell Shakespeare are thinking of their country counterparts.
