Cricket Champions

Wellington High School Junior Girls Cricket are T20 Champions

WHS Junior girls are the western region T20 champions after taking out the annual Lisa Kightley trophy.

Initially the girls travelled to Dubbo to play two games in the one day.

Firstly we came up against a talented South Dubbo team.  We batted first and made a great start to the day by beating Dubbo by 126 runs.

The second game was against our arch rivals Mudgee. Mudgee held the willow first and came up with a low score of 24. WHS passed them easliy in the early overs. It is always pleasing to have a great win over an arch rival.

In the finals we came up against Dubbo Christian School (DCS). For this game we were down a few players and called up two more debutantes for the game Arlie Clout, Linda Rose Morris and Kelsey Gibson. These Girls performed very well and I hope to see them in future teams.

DCS batted first and were all out for 59. Bowlers for Wellington were:

 B Owens 2 for 8 off 5 overs

T Kelly    1 for 17 off 5 overs

L Morris 3 for 9 off 4.4 overs

N Robinson 1 for 5 off 2 overs

M Hannelly 2 for 20 off 3 overs

With the willow Tahnee Kelly held the side together with a not out score of 36 a few other batters scoring 1 and 2 but with a few extras the girls won after only 12 overs.

I would like to congratulate the girls on a fine effort over the two long days of cricket. I urge the girls to continue with the cricket as again I see a lot of talent at the school and look forward to taking out future competitions in the future.
